New Build Fixed Wiring Installations

If you plan on having a new electrical installation in a new build, or you are having your

existing property rewired, the work needs to comply with Building Regulations, Part P.

What is Part P and what jobs are included?

For domestic customers, the following are notifiable under Part P of the Building Regulations:

  • New consumer unit or fuse box installations,
  • Consumer unit and distribution board upgrades,
  • New circuit installations,
  • Existing circuit alterations,
  • A full rewire,
  • A partial rewire,
  • A full new electrical installation.
  • “special locations”, such as the spaces around baths and showers,

All electrical installations need to be carried out to a safe, set standard, and it is recommended to use a registered electrician to carry out the work. JPEC are registered electricians and we make sure that your electrical installation complies with all Building Regulations.

JPEC can survey any existing installation and advise on the best way to increase its safety and help prevent you from shock or your equipment from overload, by upgrading the consumer unit/distribution board and the protective devices inside them.

What is earthing and bonding?

The earth creates a safe route for electrical current to flow instead of causing you an electric shock. The purpose of bonding is to reduce the risk of electric shock if you touch separate metallic parts when there is a fault somewhere within the electrical installation.

What is surge protection?

It is a device that is installed in line with a circuit or installation to protect electronic equipment sensitive to surges such as laptops and computers, TVs, consoles, phones, etc.

Do I need surge protection?

Under the new 18th edition wiring regulations BS7671, it is recommended that surge protection be incorporated into domestic dwellings.

Lightning Conductor Tapes

You may not necessarily be required to install a lightning protection system, but it is certainly worth contacting JPEC to check. Lightning strikes can cause power surges resulting in damage to equipment, and system failures, which can lead to injuries and business downtime.

Temporary Electrical Site Supplies

JPEC supply safe, strong, secure, weatherproof and watertight housing for temporary electric supplies to building sites. Two types are available:

  1. Up to 70kVA – ideal for powering basic hand tools and lighting on a building site

Testimonials

All the work was discussed in the design phase with options presented and costed. Natural project creep was handled in a controlled manner and there were no surprises during the installation. The quality of the work is without fault and the manner in which this was completed was highly commendable; a tidy team who were able to work well with other specialists at the same time. I have no concerns about recommending JPEC for electrical work.
